Short answer: If your mail is archived as a PST or OST file, a Windows desktop extractor is the right tool, and BitRecover Email Address Extractor at $39 one-time is the cheapest of the ones that publish a price. If your mail is in a live Outlook, Microsoft 365 or IMAP mailbox, a browser parser reads the folder directly and returns a deduplicated list with the subject and date alongside each address. If you only want your saved contacts, Outlook already exports those to CSV for free and you do not need any of these.
Search for a way to pull email addresses out of Outlook and you land in a strange corner of the software market. Most of the results are Windows desktop utilities from data recovery vendors, several of them will not tell you the price until you start a download, and almost all of them are built around reading Outlook data files rather than a mailbox you are actually using. That is fine if you are working through an archive. It is a poor fit if you are trying to rebuild a contact list from a shared inbox that is still receiving mail every day.
This is a comparison of what is actually available in August 2026, including the free routes that Microsoft ships and the two situations where you should not buy anything at all. Prices were checked on each vendor's own website while writing.
First, work out which problem you have
The category is confusing because two different jobs share the same search phrase.
Job one is exporting your address book. These are the contacts somebody deliberately saved. Outlook exports them natively: File, then Open & Export, then Import/Export, choose Export to a file, pick Comma Separated Values, and select the Contacts folder. You get a CSV in about a minute. No third party tool improves on this, and any product that charges you for it is selling you something you already own.
Job two is extracting addresses from the messages. Nobody saved these people as contacts. They are the 300 unique senders sitting in two years of a sales inbox, everyone who was ever copied on a project thread, and the reply-to address printed in a signature block that differs from the address the mail was sent from. Outlook has no feature for this, and job two is why the extractor market exists.

Where each one actually fits
BitRecover is the pick if you want a perpetual license and your mail is in files. At $39 paid once it costs less than two months of most subscription tools, it runs on Mac as well as Windows, which is unusual in this category, and it lets you select the body as a source field rather than only the headers. The trial ceiling of 25 addresses is low enough that you are really buying on trust, so test it against a folder you know the answer for.
SysTools reads the widest range of Outlook file formats, including OLM from Outlook for Mac and BAK files, and exports to more targets than anyone else including VCF and PDF. If you have inherited a pile of mixed Outlook archives, that breadth is worth something. The missing price is a genuine annoyance and means a sales conversation before you can compare it on cost.
Kernel connects to an Outlook profile rather than only to files, so it covers Office 365, Exchange, Gmail and IMAP accounts configured in Outlook, and it writes straight to Excel with an option to mirror your folder hierarchy across separate sheets. Like SysTools it does not put a price on the page.
The built-in Outlook export is genuinely enough for a narrow case: one folder, classic Outlook on Windows, and you are content to clean the result yourself. It gives one row per message with raw From, To and Cc text, so turning it into a list of unique people is a Remove Duplicates pass and some text splitting afterwards. It also cannot see the body. And in new Outlook or Outlook on the web the wizard is simply gone, which is why so many published walkthroughs no longer match what people see on screen.
Power Query is the free option people forget. It pulls Outlook folders into Excel and refreshes on demand, which is nice for a recurring report. It reads metadata and body text as delivered, not parsed fields, so you still end up writing formulas to isolate addresses out of a block of text. How much does an Outlook email address extractor cost?
Between free and roughly $40 for a one-time desktop license, with subscription parsers starting around $24 a month. The desktop tools are cheaper for a single job because you pay once. A subscription makes sense when the extraction repeats, when the mailbox is live rather than archived, or when you need other fields out of the same messages and not just addresses.
Can I extract email addresses from Outlook for free?
Yes, in two limited ways. Classic Outlook for Windows exports a mail folder to CSV through Import/Export, which gives you the header addresses to clean up manually. Excel Power Query imports Outlook folders and refreshes them. Neither reads addresses out of the message body, and neither exists in new Outlook or Outlook on the web, which is where the free routes usually run out.
How do I extract email addresses from a shared mailbox?
Connect to the shared mailbox rather than exporting it. Any tool that authenticates with Microsoft sign in or IMAP can select a shared mailbox your account has access to and read the folder in place. This is the most common real reason people need an extractor, because shared sales and support inboxes hold years of contacts that were never saved to anyone's address book.
What is the difference between exporting contacts and extracting addresses?
Exporting contacts gives you the address book, meaning only the people somebody chose to save. Extracting addresses reads who actually sent and received mail in a folder, which is usually a much larger and more current set. Outlook does the first for free. The second is the job every tool in this comparison was built for.
A note on what you do next
Extracting addresses from a mailbox your organization owns is ordinary business use. What happens afterwards is where the rules live. In the United States, CAN-SPAM applies to commercial email regardless of how you obtained an address, and moving people onto a marketing list because they once emailed support is a reliable way to collect spam complaints and damage a sending domain. Records, handovers and CRM history are safe uses. Marketing needs consent.
There is usually something more valuable in that inbox than the addresses anyway. A support mailbox with two years of history is full of customers describing what went right, and those messages are worth turning into published customer proof far more than they are worth as another row on a mailing list.
Choosing in one line
Archived PST or OST files and a one-off job: buy a desktop extractor, and BitRecover is the cheapest with a published price.
